ECB plan talks after IPL report

The ECB are planning further talks about the IPL, following reports that part of the T20 tournament could be staged in England.
ECB chairman Giles Clarke and chief executive David Collier have been in Mohali this week talking to their counterparts at the Board of Control for Cricket in India about future series between the two countries and England players' availability for next year's tournament - which is being staged between April 10 and May 29.
But after reports today in India's Sunday Times newspaper, which suggested part of that tournament could be held in England to broaden its world appeal, the ECB confirmed they are planning further talks in January.
"The ECB has held further discussions with the BCCI during the Test Match in Mohali, which include both the future tours programme and also Twenty20 cricket," an ECB statement confirmed.
"As a result of these meetings, it has been agreed that detailed discussions concerning future programmes will be scheduled for January.
"The ECB wishes to put on record its appreciation for the comprehensive and excellent arrangements made by the BCCI in both Chennai and Mohali, and welcomes the progress made during the talks in Mohali in areas of mutual interest."
The ECB have insisted they will not make any further comment until the talks are concluded, but the suggestion the IPL may move some of its fixtures to England could provide a compromise to the problem of giving England players the opportunity to feature in it without risking burn-out in an Ashes summer.
Sunday's reports suggest the tournament could begin in India before moving to England for three weeks before returning to India for the final matches, by which time the first Test against West Indies at Lord's will have started on May 6.
England have previously stated they would allow their leading players up to two weeks to play in the IPL - but if the tournament moved to home soil it may give them longer to participate as a warm-up for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament, starting on June 5.
Both England captain Kevin Pietersen and all-rounder Andrew Flintoff are expected to be in big demand when the next player auction begins in February - and both have expressed an interest in taking part in the event.
