Opener Gautam Gambhir said the Commonwalth Bank Series in Australia earlier this year was the turning point for him.
Gambhir, who bagged the Man of the Match in the second and final Test against England for scores of 179 and 97 in the match, said he was disappointed at missing out on a second ton in the Test but was happy with the way he performed.
"If someone had told me I would go score these many runs in the Test, I would have taken that hands down."
Gambhir said it was important to keep the hunger for runs going: "I want to make it count when I am in good form. That is important."
The southpaw from Delhi said the Mohali track was a good wicket to bat on and it was a pity India could not go on to win the series 2-0.
Gambhir, only the third Indian besides Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly to aggregate 1,000 runs in a calender year said he hoped India would continue the 2008 form into the next year.
India have been in superb touch this year and won their second successive Test series on Tuesday after putting the Aussies to sword in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Meanwhile, pace spearhead Zaheer Khan, who won the Man of the Series for his outstanding spells on batting tracks said 2008 has been a great year for Indian cricket.
"We are working well as a unit. It has always been a dream to win a Man of the Series award and I am happy to have finally won it."
Zaheer also praised Ishant Sharma and said the youngster provided the attack with the pace it needs to unsettle opposition.
Zaheer was the second consecutive bowler to win a Man of the Series in a Test series at home after Ishant took the award against Australia last month.
