Sri Lanka's sports minister, Gamini Lokuge, has dissolved the interim committee which has presided over SLC.
The committee, headed by former Test captain Arjuna Ranatunga, has had a testy relationship with the Sri Lankan government and national team players since its establishment.
The trigger for Lokuge's decision came after the sacking of 16 SLC employees by the committee last week.
"I have decided to relieve Ranatunga and his committee of their responsibilities and bring in a fresh set of individuals," Lokuge said. "They have served for about a year now and its time for change."
Lokuge had ordered for the employees to be reinstated, but the committee had refused.
"I have been told that my services are no longer required and I will honourably step aside, allowing the person the Minister wishes to bring in to run the show," Ranatunga was quoted as saying by cricketnirvana.com.
The secretary of the sports ministry, S. Liyanagama, will take charge of SLC affairs until a final decision on a long-term solution is taken.
