Pakistan speedster Sohail Tanvir has been granted permission to play for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield Twenty20 competition.
Tanvir, the most successful bowler in the Indian Premier League twenty20 competition, will replace Pakistani teammate Younis Khan in the Australian side.
"Sohail had requested permission to play in Australia in writing," PCB director international operations, Zakir Khan told the Dawn. "Umar Gul has also made a verbal request to play in the Australia. The Board has allowed the two permission to play in Australia."
Fast bowler Gul is still negotiating a deal with Western Australia and is hopeful of signing a contract soon.
The PCB's decision is in contrast to the previous regime under Nasim Ashraf which had refused Mohammad Asif and Tanvir permission to play in the County championships in England.
They were both paid a hefty compensation instead.
"It is going to be a different experience playing in Australian conditions," Tanvir said.
"I am happy to get this opportunity as Pakistan is not playing any international cricket at the moment."
Tanvir is scheduled to leave for Australia on December 26.
